12 month wedding checklist

Congratulations on your engagement! Now time to plan your 12 month - Wedding checklist

Congratulations on your engagement!
Now time to plan your 12 month – Wedding checklist

Pop the champagne – you’ve said yes to marrying your life partner! And now what? You need to get organised for your big day, where to start?

With so much to do it can seem overwhelming, though as experts in epic events, we’ve put together your ultimate 12 month wedding checklist – start ticking and get excited.

12 Months to go

– Budget
Think dollars and get down to budget business – where to save and where to splurge?

– Guestlist
Tally up your guest list – perhaps not final, but get everyone who you want and we’ll cut it down from there. Who are your party people?

– Get Inspired
Create a moodboard – gather images and ideas that you love.

– A-team
Assemble an all star tribe of wedding suppliers (photography, celebrant, florist etc) – make a list of your favourites, check their insta accounts and previous work, and refine the list to your top picks.

– Yes to the Dress
Begin the hunt for your dream dress – start with inspirational pictures and go from there.

– VIPs
Who is part of your bride tribe? The wedding party?

– Where
Find a venue for the ceremony and reception, and lock in the date.

– Save it!
Once you’ve set the date, let people know to mark it in their diaries.

– Wine, chocolate or tea?
Relax knowing there’s some work to do, but you’re getting organised – and consider hiring a wedding planner to help you with the rest.

6-9 months

– Smells like love
Secure your florist, ensuring the flowers you want are in season.

– Another yes to the dress
Finalise your dream dress – and get it ordered (leaving plenty of time for adjustments).

– Emcee
Does someone come to mind to engage and entertain your nearest and dearest? Ask them nicely if they’ll play a special role on your big day.

– Food & Drink
Consider your catering/beverages and plan your menu, keeping in mind the season and dining experience you dream of. Will the service be relaxed or formal? Shared meals or alternate drop?

– Style your Tribe
Organise the bridesmaids outfits and accessories, and consider how will these fit into the overall theme/colour palette. Be mindful one dress style sometimes does not fit all so make sure your Bride Tribe is happy and are set to enjoy the day as much as you will.

– Book the music makers
There ain’t no party without good music! What music would you like down the aisle and at the reception – string quartet, violin or none? Entertainment as a four piece jazz band, DJ or professional entertainer? Consider and book them right away.

– Celebrate the Celebrant
There’s really only one thing you need to get married – the celebrant! Start looking for who you really click with.

– The write stuff
Consider style and wording of your wedding invitations, and discuss with your stationery supplier.

– Picture perfect
Do your research and find a photographer whose work you love and then book them ASAP!

– Pre-wedding parties
Fun before the big day! Hens, bucks or bridal showers, pre-wedding celebrations are coming! Who’s on the organising committee?

– Accommodate yourselves
Book wedding night accommodation so you’ll know where you’ll be.

– How to get there and everywhere
Arrange and book transportation for the bridal party.

– Guest Check
Finalise guestlist (aka get culling) and confirm mailing addresses.

– Ceremony particulars
Meet with your celebrant/official to confirm the ceremony proceedings. Should you want something special, now’s a good time to include it! A letter, candle or dove ceremony are popular options.

3-5 months

– The rings!
Choose and order the wedding rings.

– Hair and make-up
Have a make-up and hair trial, and book your beauty stylists.

– Running sheet
Make a draft timeline of your day from ceremony to reception. If you’re using an Event Manager at your chosen wedding venue, they will be able to help you plan and organise this.

– Finalise all wording.
Invitation wording, typography and colours. Consider additional stationery (programs, menu cards, place cards, seating plan, thank-you cards etc). It’s the extra details that make any event extra special!

– All the favours!
Order the wedding favours for guests.

– Beautiful Men
Shop for menswear for your groom and groomsmen to ensure they’re looking sharp.

– Ceremony stars
Who and what would you like to read as part of the ceremony? Finalise your vows too, as forever you do.

– Check catering
Are you happy with the menu and beverages? A menu tasting will help you confirm all your choices.

– Work it off
Request annual leave for your honeymoon, and the week before your wedding – because why not?

– Travel sorted
Finalise all honeymoon plans and obtain all necessary documents, including visas, and check your passports are up to date!

– Signed sealed delivered
Pop the invitations in the post! Record RSVPs and dietary requirements and pass these to the caterer.

6-8 weeks

– Thanks to your tribe
Purchase bridal party gifts – personalised notes are touching.

– Gentle Reminders
How are the RSVPs looking? Do you need to send out a reminder for people to send in their RSVPs. Be sure to pass any dietary requirements onto the caterer.

– Final sound edits
Confirm your soundtrack – finalise your ceremony and reception music.

– Under-the-gown-wear
Be sure to buy the appropriate underwear for your wedding gown. A good time to check your bridesmaids also have the right underwear.

– Suppliers on track?
Touch base with all suppliers to confirm dates, deposits and details.

3-5 weeks

– Sparkle, sparkle
Have your engagement ring cleaned.

– Who is seated where?
Confirm seating plan – have you made space for Grandma?

– Reception rundown
Discuss requirements with your emcee for the reception, the running order of events, and the space.

– Chase RSVPs
Those naughty friends and family – nudge whoever hasn’t RSVP’d yet.

– Something old, new, borrowed and blue?
Now is the time to find it all.

– Final dress fitting!
Don’t forget your shoes and accessories.

1-2 weeks

– Final countdown
Give your caterer and venue the final guest count.

– The rings
Collect your wedding rings.

– Gift-caretaker
Assign to pack up your gifts and belongings after the reception.

– Sit with me
Finalise the seating plan – may require wine to complete.

– Dress me
Pick up your gown (and resist the urge to try it on a million times).

– Running sheet
Finalise your wedding day timeline, include key contacts, and send your bridal party, VIPs, suppliers and any other key players a soft copy. Also have a few printed to have with you on the day, although your Event Manager should take care of this.

– Pamper yourself
Need a facial or a massage? Nails looking pretty? Now is the time.

– Weather or not
Check the weather report and make sure a contingency plan is in place in case Mother Nature isn’t co-operating. Is your event outside, do you need your Event Manager to organise a marquee?

– Holiday
Pack for your honeymoon – throw that bikini in! Holidays are in sight.

– Toast this Speech
Write your wedding speech or toast – ensure you’ve included everything you want to say on your special day, and anyone you wish to thank.

1-2 days

– Ceremony Rehearsal
If required, have a ceremony rehearsal.

– Sort yourself
Lay out all your wedding day items, including accessories and shoes, and survival kit (magic tape, lipstick, bandaids, towelettes and safety pins – check).

– All paid
Finalise all final payments for suppliers.

– Mani-pedi and sunkissed skin
If you’re going to get your nails done and a spray tan, now is the time to ensure you’re looking your best.

– Bridal party gifts
Give your party people their gifts.

– Rest and relax
Go to bed early and (try) to relax so you feel rested for your big day!

Aftermath

– Thank you, thank you
Write the thank you cards to guests, and perhaps some wonderful suppliers who went above and beyond!

– Say my name
If applicable, start the name change process.

– Photos
Keep in touch with your videographer/photographer, as the second best thing to experiencing your special day is looking over all the fond memories!

– Cleaned and loved
Have your wedding dress cleaned and pack it away, or list it for sale if you’d like another bride to love it as much as you did.

– Enjoy your partner
Breathe in and out, and feel the bliss of married life forevermore!
